The Oklahoma City RedHawks used a big four-run third inning plus another great start by Mike Foltynewicz to claim a 5-2 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers at Werner Park Saturday night.

With the victory, the RedHawks (33-30) snapped a three-game losing streak and avoided losing four straight for the first time in 2014. Omaha saw a four-game winning streak come to an end, as the Storm Chasers (33-29) lost for just the third time in their last 12 games.

The RedHawks started the scoring in the second inning. Carlos Perez tripled with one out, and two batters later, Matt Duffy brought him home with a RBI single.

They kept it going in the third inning, tallying four runs and five hits. Each of the first four batters collected hits, including a RBI single by Marc Krauss and a two-run double by L.J. Hoes. Perez capped the inning with a RBI single, making it 5-0.

It marked just the second time in 11 meetings with Omaha this season the RedHawks scored more than three runs.

Foltynewicz kept Omaha quiet over the first six innings. He allowed just two hits and had two runners reach scoring position. Between the second and sixth innings he retired 12 of 13 batters.

The Storm Chasers scored twice in the seventh. The inning got off to an ominous start when Duffy missed a pop up just past the infield by Justin Maxwell. After a couple of strikeouts by Foltynewicz, Matt Fields walked.

Whit Merrifield came up next, and with the outfield playing shallow, Merrifield sent a fly ball over Hoes' head in center field for a two-run triple.

Foltynewicz (5-3) would exit after that. He turned in a sixth consecutive quality start and continued his mastery of the Storm Chasers, allowing two runs on four hits, with three walks and eight strikeouts over 6.2 innings.

The RedHawks loaded the bases with one out in the eighth inning, but did not score after a couple of well-hit balls by Ronny Torreyes and Kiké Hernandez turned into outs.

In the end, the RedHawks wouldn't need the extra offense. Bobby Doran held the Storm Chasers scoreless in the eighth, and Josh Zeid struck out the side in the ninth to record his sixth save.

At the plate, the RedHawks finished with 11 hits. Perez had a game-high three hits and fell a home run shy of the cycle. Krauss collected two hits and reached base in four of five plate appearances.

Omaha starting pitcher Sugar Ray Marimon endured his roughest outing of the season and was knocked out the game in the third inning. Marimon (4-3) was charged with five runs and seven hits over 2.1 innings. He struck out three and walked two.

The RedHawks finish their series with the Storm Chasers aiming for a split Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
