Small Child Found In Car After DUI Stop In NW OKC

An Oklahoma City woman is facing a number of charges, including child endangerment, after being arrested for driving under the influence, late Sunday night.

OKC Police arrested 26-year-old Kendra Jones while responding to a report of a hit-and-run on the northwest side of the metro. Officers found a vehicle matching the description and pulled it over.

The responding officer said when he asked Jones if she had been drinking that night she replied that she had had a "40". The officer said he could smell alcohol and asked Jones to exit the car. According to the officer, Jones was unsteady on her feet and slurred her speech.

Based on her condition the officer did not perform a standard field sobriety test.  When asked if she would take the state's implied consent test, Jones replied to the officer, "No, I just want to go home."

Police learned that Jones was in fact the driver of the vehicle that was reported in the hit and run. They also learned that she had her young daughter in the backset of the car. The young girl told police that she told her mom not to drive after drinking.

Police say the little girl was very shaken up from the ordeal and was crying. The girl's aunt later arrived at the scene and took custody of her.

Jones was transported from the scene to the Oklahoma County Jail. She is facing charges of DUI, child endangerment, driving on flat tires or rim, straddling lane lines, and leaving the scene of an accident without required notice.
