Family Remembers Midwest City Stabbing Victim

A violent attack that took the life of a young woman in Midwest City has the victim's family praying for justice.

On Wednesday, Waynetta Roberson was found stabbed to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Police arrested her ex-boyfriend for the crime.

Family and friends of Waynetta Roberson, 39 tell News 9 she was excited to start her new life. She got married and celebrated her birthday about a week ago and was planning to move to Dallas with her new husband before she was killed.

"She was just a real nice person," said Michelle Adkins, victim's sister. "My sister was always helping someone."

Michelle Adkins is trying to stay strong for her family, just four days after learning through a phone call that her sister Waynetta was killed.

"I thought it was a joke so I was like who are you? She was like, well, my daughter was stabbed with your sister and my daughter is in the hospital," said Adkins. "She made it, but your sister didn't make it."

Midwest City Police say it all started in the parking lot of the Chestnut Apartments early Wednesday morning.

Police arrived on scene to find Roberson and her friend fighting for their life. Her friend survived the attack. 

Detectives tell News 9 they believe the stabbing escalated from a domestic disturbance.

"I don't know what to do and I'm just really lost because I'm losing everybody to domestic violence," said Adkins.

Police identified the suspect as Reginald Lancaster, 48, he was later arrested for the crime.

Adkins said her sister dated Lancaster for nearly six years and tried over and over again to leave him, but he threatened her every time.

"The more that you let it happen, the more they think they're in control of you because he actually thought he owned her," said Adkins. "He said, basically she was never going to leave. I guess he meant that because he took her from us."

Adkins is hoping to bury her sister in Tulsa next to their mother and younger sister. Adkins said they were also victims of domestic violence.

As for Lancaster, he was booked into the Oklahoma County jail for assault and battery with a deadly weapon and first degree murder.
