TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa homicide detectives have made two arrests in the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl.

David Ruble II, 19, was arrested Saturday night after what police called a "high-intensity investigation." Another man also was arrested, and News On 6 cameras captured him walking into the jail.

That man is 21-year-old Demonte Rushing. He turned himself in at the police station.

"The evidence is there," Tulsa Police Department Sgt. Dave Walker said.

April Montano died from wounds sustained in a shooting on the Gilcrease Expressway on Thursday night. She was riding in a truck with her family after they spent the afternoon at Keystone Lake riding all-terrain vehicles.

Walker said the Montano's killing was senseless.

The Montano family had been at the lake Friday celebrating April's graduation from Thoreau Demonstration Academy. Police believe robbery was the motive for the shooting, and Ruble wanted to steal the family's truck and trailer full of four-wheelers.

"It certainly is about ATVs," Walker said. "The bottom line is it's gonna be ATV driven; it's gonna be robbery driven. It's gonna be stupid little kids with big guns that don't know how to use them and should have left them at home."

Montano's father said he heard three shots, and when he pulled over about 9:30 p.m., he realized April had been hit.

The girl was rushed to the hospital and died about 3 a.m. on Friday.

Montano's father said he saw a black car leaving the scene. Police believe Ruble was the driver of a black Dodge Charger officers stopped soon after the shooting. Detectives said that at the time, they needed to interview more witnesses prior to arresting Ruble for murder.

"Once confronted with the seriousness and senselessness of this murder, people were willing to give testimony that allowed the Tulsa Police Department to arrest Ruble for murder," Walker said.

Rushing had information about the shooting and police were seeking him, Walker said earlier Saturday before he turned himself in to authorities.

Walker said Ruble is known among detectives as being part of the Tulsa "underworld." Ruble was around two other Tulsa murder scenes and had interaction with investigators on those cases, he said.

Officers recovered a .40-caliber handgun along the route Ruble took in his car the night of the murder, Walker said. The shell casings found at the scene of the shooting also were .40 caliber.

In February, the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office filed a motion to revoke Ruble's five-year suspended sentence on a 2013 conviction for larceny of merchandise from a retailer. According to court records, Ruble and three others stole 14 iPods from a midtown Target store. The DA said Ruble failed to complete his community service, did not report to a probation officer as ordered, failed to maintain employment and failed to complete substance abuse evaluations.

Court records show Ruble is now on a new payment plan for court costs.
