RedHawks Win Finale Of 12-Game Road Trip

After a quiet game yesterday, the Oklahoma City RedHawks continued their recent hot hitting Monday afternoon and withstood a late rally from the Memphis Redbirds to finish their road trip with a 6-4 win at AutoZone Park.

The RedHawks (29-23) won three of four games in Memphis, finishing with a winning record (5-3) at AutoZone Park for the second consecutive season. They also went 7-5 on their road trip, marking the first time they finished their annual 12-game Big 12 Tournament road trip with a winning record since 2010.

The RedHawks struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Domingo Santana led off with a double, and two batters later, Gregorio Petit lined a RBI single to center field.

Jon Singleton pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third when he connected on his team-leading 13th home run of the season. Singleton's two-run shot landed past the RedHawks bullpen in right-center field.

Ronny Torreyes lined a RBI single the fourth to make it 4-0. Torreyes ended up going 9-for-14 in the series.

The offense kept rolling in the fifth. Kiké Hernandez homered for a second straight game, sending a two-run homer onto the bluff in left field to give the RedHawks a 6-0 lead. Hernandez is now a 12-game hitting streak, tied for the longest by a RedHawk this season.

The RedHawks finished their four-game series in Memphis with eight homers—their highest total for a series this season.

The RedHawks were still cruising along leading 6-0 in the eighth inning when the Redbirds plated four runs. After a sac fly by Oscar Taveras made it 6-1, the Redbirds had runners at the corners with two outs.

Stephen Piscotty came up next and sent a ground ball to Petit, but Petit mishandled it. A run scored and the inning stayed alive.

RedHawks relievers Josh Zeid and Kevin Chapman combined to walk the next three hitters, the latter two of which each with the bases loaded to plate two more runs and make it 6-4.

Chapman then regrouped and got Audry Perez to ground out and end the inning.

Memphis (24-27) had none on and two outs before consecutive hits by Randal Grichuk and Taveras put the tying runs on base. Jason Stoffel emerged from the bullpen to face Piscotty, and on the second pitch, Piscotty popped out to end the game. Stoffel earned his fifth save of the season.

Making his first start since early April, Paul Clemens had another good outing, holding the Redbirds scoreless over five innings. Clemens (3-0) allowed three hits with three strikeouts and no walks. He has now thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings with the RedHawks.

As was the case for most of the series, the RedHawks were able to have a lot of success against Memphis' starting pitcher. Kurt Heyer was touched for six runs and nine hits over six innings in his AutoZone Park debut. Heyer (0-1) walked two and struck out one.

The RedHawks return home to begin an eight-game homestand and face the Omaha Storm Chasers at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night.
