Family Of A Murdered Woman Hopes Social Media Will Help Cold Case

Mary Morgan Pewitt was just 25 when she was stabbed at least 30 times June 4th, 1988 at her Comanche home.

The mother of two was killed 26 years ago and her loved ones are using Facebook and Twitter to produce new leads.

"All the information we've received is that the case is solvable," said Becky Pentland, Pewitt's cousin.

As the 26th anniversary of her death nears, her family is pushing harder than ever to find her killer.

"This murder could go any different direction, there are numerous people that it could be," added Pentland.

Prewitt's two young daughters and her mother found the body.

Now, Pewitt's daughters and cousin are fighting for answers to the unsolved murder through Facebook and Twitter.

"I decided to go the route of social media because I know what kind of an impact it can have as far as reaching out to people whereas before, you didn't have that power," explained Pentland.

They made pages and accounts to reach out to people in Comanche and surrounding areas to drum up new leads.

"It was a shock, it was, we were, we didn't understand," explained Pewitt's friend, Lorrie Newsom. "Mary was a wonderful person, she was very caring and giving and we don't understand how anyone could do this to her,"

Friends told News 9 people in town have their suspicions about who did it.

"Everybody knows everybody's business and that's the way we grew up so there is no doubt in my mind that there are people in this town still alive who know what happened," Newsom added.

The City of Comanche proclaimed June 4th "Justice for Mary Morgan Day."

The public is invited to attend a tribute to her at Jackson Park in Comanche from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be a potluck, balloon release and music.

The family has asked for information on Pewitt's murder that can be turned over to investigators and pictures of Pewitt to share with her daughters, who were only 6 and 7 when she died.

Anyone who would like to leave information at the tribute regarding the murder can do so confidentially by dropping off a sealed envelope in a box that will be provided.

An OSBI agent out of Lawton is working Pewitt's case.
