It was a neighborhood staple until the Moore tornado destroyed it.

The massive tornado that tore through the Plaza Towers neighborhood also destroyed nearby Little River Park.

"It was like the same thing when I realized my school wasn't there anymore, you know?" recalled Isabella Nunn.

The Nunn family lives about two blocks away.

"I brought them here in their strollers," said Isabella's mom Kasey.

"Usually ride my bike around the trails and play on the playground," added Hunter.

And then it was all gone.

"It was unrecognizable," said Kasey.

But voters approved a temporarily sales tax to put the park on the path for rebuilding. The first phase is complete. The goal isn't just to replace what was lost in the tornado, but make the park better. Devon Energy has now kicked in a $200,000 donation to finish the project. When complete it will include two new playgrounds, a "sprayground", fitness stations and a memorial plaza marking where the tornado went through what is officially known as Tom Strouhal Little River Park.

"I know my dad would be happy to see the new plans for the park and the expanding and everything and more people coming back and getting to enjoy the land," said Tom's son Keith.

And enjoying more than just a place to play but a sense of peace.

"It's never going to be the same, but it will get back to normal hopefully," said Isabella.

All the improvements should take two to three years. But nearly one year later the rebuilding of Little River park is well underway.
