TULSA, Oklahoma -

Late Monday night a woman returned home just hours after being shot in the head. With the help of family members, Annie Mougell-Walker walked into her apartment, wearing a neck brace, after she said her 11-year-old grandson shot her after an argument.

Neighbors say nothing like this has happened in their apartment complex near 81st Street and Sheridan before.

"All the kids in the neighborhood play together, so it's sad, very sad," said neighbor Jennifer Franklin.

Franklin returned home to see a crime scene next to her apartment.

Police say the woman called 911 after the child shot her in the head. Paramedics took the woman to Saint Francis hospital and investigators interviewed her there.

Neighbor Lora Miller, said, "My neighbor across the street said, you know, she thought it was lightning and her other neighbor said it kind of sounded like a gun shot."

Miller said fire trucks and police cars lined the driveway in front of the home where the shooting took place.

Mougell-Walker said she and her grandson had an argument and later shot her. She said when police arrived he told them it was someone else leading police to look elsewhere.

"He got in trouble today at school, so when I got home I was gonna talk to him furthermore about it. Before I could talk to him all I saw was a big bang of a flash and heard it, and I knew I was shot in the back of my head," Mougell-Walker said.

Felicia Sykes rushed over from work to the Ridgemont Apartments when she heard her family friend got shot in the head.

"I think it's really crazy for a child to shoot their own mom," Sykes said.

Moguell-Walker said that doctors can't remove the bullet from her head. They are going to have to wait until the bullet can work its way out.

Captain Mike Eckert with the Tulsa Police said the 11 year old is being held on complaints of shooting with intent to kill.
