Fish, Perrin Earn Big 12 Awards

STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

Two Oklahoma State Cowboys were rewarded for their efforts on the baseball diamond over the weekend as Zach Fish earned Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honors and Jon Perrin was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for games played May 5-11, it was announced by the league office today.

Fish led No. 7 OSU to a series sweep at Kansas State on a weekend that saw the Cowboys extend their winning streak to nine games. Fish hit safely in all three games against the Wildcats, going 6-for-12 (.500) with two home runs, seven RBIs and five runs. He racked up 12 total bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage and also tallied three walks and a .600 on-base percentage.

After going 1-for-4 in the series opener, Fish had a 2-for-4 effort that included a home run in Saturday's series-clinching 6-4 win.

In Sunday's finale, Fish racked up a career-high five RBIs, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a three-run homer and two-RBI single.

Following the weekend surge, Fish leads OSU in batting average (.330), hits (64), home runs (10), RBIs (38), total bases (106) and slugging percentage (.546) and also ranks in the top 10 in the Big 12 in each of those statistical categories.

A native of Olathe, Kan., Perrin was magnificent in the return to his home state as he hurled a shutout to lift OSU to an 8-0 win in the Cowboys' series opener at K-State. The junior right-hander racked up a career-high 10 strikeouts and allowed just four hits, all singles, to improve to 6-3 on the season. In tossing his second-career complete game, he faced only five batters over the minimum and walked just one in a 129-pitch effort.

Perrin retired seven in a row to start the game and had multiple strikeouts in three innings. K-State, which entered the game with a .290 team batting average, did not advance a runner to third base in the contest and had only three runners reach second base.

Perrin's 10 strikeouts bested his previous career high of nine, which came on April 18 in a shutout of Kansas in Stillwater in a game that also marked his last win prior to Friday against the Wildcats.

With the shutout, Perrin lowered his ERA to 1.75. He ranks in the top 10 in the conference in wins, shutouts and complete games, as well as innings pitched (77.1), strikeouts (68) and opponent batting average (.238).
