The Washington County Sheriff's Office confirms the skull found on private property in the southwestern corner of the county Tuesday afternoon is human.

According to Captain Gary Miller, a man found the skull while searching for scrap metal in a dump site on the property. The man had permission from the landowners, who are cooperating with the investigation.

Capt. Miller said the landowners are shocked that a skull was found there. He says it's too early in the investigation to connect the skull to any missing persons cases.

Miller said they were not able to locate any other human bones.

The man found the skull just off Highway 11 north of 186th Street North at Tyner Creek. He took the skull to the Skiatook Police Department and police notified the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The skull is being sent to the Medical Examiner's office. Miller said he hopes to hear something by the beginning of next week.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to help with the investigation.
