OKC Woman's 'Emotional Support' Pig Sparks Dispute

An Oklahoma City woman says her 220 pound pet pig is clean, potty trained and even has been micro-chipped, but the city says the pig still has to go.

Karen Padilla and her family moved into the Wingspread II neighborhood four months ago. Padilla says a mean neighbor reported the pig—who's name is Wilbur—to the city. Padilla claims Wilbur is a certified "emotional support" animal and she showed us the paperwork to prove it. However, the city tells News 9 since Padilla's family lives on less than one-acre of land, a pet pig is illegal.

The city says Padilla can still file an appeal with the city's Board of Adjustment. To file that is tough, it will cost $1,400 dollars.

"I don't have the money to do this," Padilla sobbed Tuesday afternoon. "I didn't think I would have to do this. And they throw this at me? I can't."

Oklahoma's Director of the Office of Disability Concerns Dough MacMillian tells News 9 Padilla's best option to keep Wilbur is to file that appeal. The Director of the Arizona service animal organization that certified Wilbur as an "emotional support animal" also told me filing that appeal is Padilla's only option.

Padilla has opened an account on gofundme.com for anyone who wants to help her cause.
