Oklahoma City police say a man attempted to run from officers after he was arrested on burglary charges Sunday afternoon.

According to police, at 3:20 p.m. officers responded to a burglary report in the 1600 block of S.W. 62nd Street. As officers were on their way to the scene, they saw a man who matched the suspect description walking southbound on the west side of Penn. Avenue just north of S.W. 64th Street.

Officers placed the man, later identified as 29-year-old Marvis Tyrone Thomas, under investigative custody. A victim told police that Thomas opened the door and walked into his house. He thought Thomas was going to rob him.

When the victim confronted him, Thomas said he thought it was his "homeboy's house," and left, according to the police report.

However, police said Thomas then walked into the garage of another house, as the homeowner was unloading groceries from her car. Thomas reportedly told that homeowner he needed a charger to charge his phone. The homeowner said she believed Thomas was going to assault her with a knife, so she yelled at him to leave.

Thomas was taken to the Oklahoma County Jail. When an officer opened the back door of the patrol car, Thomas reportedly attempted to run away. Officers said they had to use force to get Thomas under control.

Thomas was booked into the jail on charges of first-degree burglary and escaping custody after former felony convictions.
