A K9 officer helped Oklahoma City police capture a man who is accused of punching an officer Tuesday night.

According to police, just after 7 p.m., an officer made a traffic stop at S.W. 27th and May, and learned that a passenger in the car had warrants.

However, when the officer tried to handcuff that passenger, 26-year-old Dustin Scott Gonzalez, Gonzalez reportedly resisted arrest and punched the officer in her head.

Police say Gonzalez was able to get away. Several other officers responded to the scene to search for Gonzalez. An officer and his K9 dog quickly located Gonzalez between two sheds in a backyard.

After a struggle with officers, Gonzalez was eventually taken into custody. He was transported to the Southwest Medical Center to be treated for a dog bite.

After being medically cleared, Gonzalez was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on several charges, including assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and public drunkenness. He had a warrant out of Custer County for failure to appear in court.
