QUAPAW, Oklahoma -

The EF2 tornado that struck the northeast Oklahoma community of Quapaw Sunday killed one, injured many and destroyed several structures. Now, Oklahomans are asking, "How can I help?"

The tornado destroyed 15 structures in Quapaw, including homes, businesses and the Quapaw volunteer fire department station. Roughly 45 other structures sustained major or minor damage.

Governor Mary Fallin visited Quapaw Monday and toured the damage. She also declared a state of emergency for Ottawa County, which will allow state agencies to make emergency purchases needed to expedite the delivery of resources to affected areas. The declaration also serves as a first step toward seeking federal assistance should it be necessary.

The following information if for Oklahomans interested in assisting in the tornado disaster relief efforts in Quapaw and Arkansas:

"Hey fans! We want to "pay it forward" for the victims of the terrible tornadoes that hit Arkansas yesterday evening. We will be accepting donations for the following items through Wednesday evening and will then be sending them out Thursday morning. Here is a list of the items we need:

tarps, work gloves, flashlights, hand sanitizer, toiletries, diapers, baby wipes, snacks, gift cards, first aid supplies and batteries

If you want to donate any of these items, please bring them by our restaurant this week. We want to help with disaster relief efforts since everyone was so kind to our community last spring. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!"
