St. Gregory's claimed the softball program's first Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season championship Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Texas Wesleyan at the SGU Softball Field. The No. 7-ranked Cavaliers won the opener, 9-2, before taking the nightcap, 4-0.

St. Gregory's enters the postseason with a record of 46-8. The Cavs, who finished SAC play at a program-best 27-5, will compete in the conference tournament next week before hosting the NAIA Opening Round May 12-14.

The home team never trailed on the day, opening up a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the first game when Courtni Clark singled home Allison Eales. After the Lady Rams cut it to 3-2 in the fourth, St. Gregory's responded with one in the bottom of the frame, two in the fifth and three in the sixth inning.

Eales and Caitlin O'Hagan produced RBI doubles during that stretch. Eales, Randi Yousey and Melanie Gladden each finished with two hits to lead the Cavs.

Sierra Gallego (17-5) was solid in the circle, giving up only four hits and one earned run in her ninth complete-game victory of the season. She struck out three and walked one.

St. Gregory's kept its positive momentum rolling, sprinting out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap after consecutive singles by Eales, Dani Nissen, Gladden and Clark.

That's all the support starter Devon Frazier needed. She gave up only three hits and struck out five in her second shutout of the season. Frazier improved to 17-1.

Eales and Clark each turned in 2-for-3 games to lead the Cavs offensively.

St. Gregory's recognized its eight seniors following the doubleheader. Whitney Anderson, Devon Frazier, Morgan Garman, Sierra Gallego, Cassie Liotta, Caitlin O'Hagan, Stasia Trobaugh and Jordan Walters all participated in their last home game.
