Strong Storms Expected In Oklahoma Over The Weekend

Posted: Updated:

We have a beautiful Friday night ahead with lows dropping into the low 60s by early Saturday morning.

Most of your Saturday will be dry with sunny skies and hot, humid, windy conditions. Highs on Saturday will climb into the upper 80s with strong south winds 20 to 30 mph.

Late in the afternoon hours there will be a chance for isolated storms to develop along a dryline in far western Oklahoma. If storms develop, they will be severe with the main threats being hail possibly up to the size of baseballs, and winds, but isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

As we get into the late evening hours, the threat for severe storms will shift further east. As the main upper-level storm arrives, more widespread storms are expected, and will last well into the overnight hours.

Current timing would bring storms into the OKC metro after 9 p.m. The main threats for central Oklahoma will be large hail up the size of golf balls, damaging wind gusts, with a low end threat for tornadoes.

Rain will be coming to an end by mid-morning Sunday in central Oklahoma, and will then push into eastern parts of the state. The threat for severe weather on Sunday will be dependent on time of Saturday storms, but should remain in far eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas.
