The state rests its case against a former high school teacher accused of having sex with a student. Tyrone Nash is on trial for rape, and on Wednesday the defense called his loved ones in to testify.

Nash spent more than an hour Wednesday morning contemplating his next move; either ask the state for a plea deal or head back into the courtroom to hear more of the state's evidence against him.

"I just see people trying to tear him down and I'm not going to stand for it and neither is he," said Nash's father, Michael Shepard.

Shepard is pleased his son chose to proceed with the trial.

The allegations were first brought to light when a Western Heights High School student came forward claiming she had a sexual relationship with Nash from 2010 to 2011. The student testified during the trial, they had sex more than 10 times.

Prosecutors used an irregularity on Nash's private parts to back her testimony. With a big part of this case depending on those distinguishing physical characteristics that only an intimate partner would know, the defense called his long-term girlfriend to dispute the alleged victim's claims.

"We can't really say too much right now but I've always felt that he was not guilty," Shepard said.

The defense called Nash's father and several family members to testify to their encounters with the alleged victim. Some described the teenager as lingering or swarming around Nash's home and him asking her to leave.

"I felt the words that were spoke over him were untrue."

Nash is charged with five counts of rape and five counts of forcible oral sodomy. The victim has also filed a civil suit.
