The ACLU in Texas is pushing to ban police officers in high schools there from carrying tasers. A student was tasered and hit his head causing him long term health problems, but I say it's shortsighted and foolish to take that non-lethal option away from officers trying to control increasing school violence.
Phil writes: "…the officers in the schools are there to protect the students. This only leaves one option for them and that is to draw the weapons."
Chuck adds: "Yep, take the tazers and that just leaves a gun! ... Not a very smart move on ACLU part!"
Holly writes: "If I had to go to school with some of these thugs and punks…I'd want someone to have a taser."
But Michael says: "…I understand the position the ACLU is taking and, even though I do not entirely agree, do not find it entirely unreasonable."
Paula writes: "…guns should not be in our schools but pepper spray and gazers are a must. Take those away and he's just a man in a uniform and then he's at risk."
Marie says: "Taking away tasers will lead to someone getting hurt seriously or killed."
Ryan suggests: "Maybe others will get the message...that maybe going to class is a lot smarter than getting hit with non-leathal force."
Finally, Ronnie says he was a school officer: "...using pepper spray and tazors help kids from being hurt. This also is the only way to break up large fights."
