Redhawks Come Up Clutch To Win On Road

Metairie, Louisiana -

Ronny Torreyes hit a clutch two-run single with one out in the ninth inning, as the Oklahoma City RedHawks claimed a 3-2 comeback win over the New Orleans Zephyrs Wednesday afternoon at Zephyr Field.

Trailing 2-1 in the top of the ninth inning, the RedHawks drew three consecutive walks with one out against Zephyrs closer Chris Hatcher. Torreyes stepped up next and delivered a two-run single to right-center field to swing the lead in favor of Oklahoma City.

Until the RedHawks rallied, the Zephyrs pitching staff had retired 11 straight batters, as well as 15 of the last 16 RedHawks to step to the plate.

After Torreyes' hit, the RedHawks (5-2) had runners at the corners with one out, but Hatcher (0-1) prevented any more runs form scoring.

RedHawks closer Jason Stoffel certainly didn't need the breathing room, as he retired the side on just six pitches in the bottom of the ninth to record his third save.

For the second straight game, Max Stassi started the scoring with an opposite field home run early on. Leading off the second inning, Stassi sent a homer to right field to give the RedHawks a 1-0 edge.

After tallying one hit through the first three innings, New Orleans was able to get its offense going in the fourth. The Zephyrs (1-6) notched four straight hits with one out in the inning, scoring twice to take the lead. Kyle Skipworth and Juan Diaz each hit RBI singles to make it 2-1.

The scoring stopped for both teams until the ninth, as they combined to just put one runner in scoring position over the next four innings.

Coming off a tough Triple-A debut in Round Rock last Saturday, RedHawks pitcher Nick Tropeano recorded his first win. As Wednesday's piggyback starter, Tropeano (1-1) threw three scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one walk and one strikeout.

The RedHawks will look to record a sweep at Zephyr Field for the first time since July 2009 when the finish the series in New Orleans at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
