Myriad Gardens Offers April Events For All Ages

During the month of April, the Gardens is offering several events for all ages to enjoy. The list includes an Easter Egg Hunt and brunch, a day trip to Dallas, dog training, speaker series and much more.

Myriad Gardens provides many unique opportunities for the community to enjoy including the children's garden, the off-leash dog park, two restaurants, horticultural education programs for adults and children, splash fountains and paths for walking and jogging.

During the month of April, the Gardens is offering several events for all ages to enjoy. The list includes an Easter Egg Hunt and brunch, a day trip to Dallas, dog training, speaker series and much more. 

Yoga with Alexis Persico

All-level Vinyasa-style class led by Alexis Persico. Class participants should bring a yoga mat and water. Participants will meet under the Pavilion, as weather permits. Those interested may participate for a session or two or enjoy the entire series. Pay on-site or in advance online.

Tuesday Evenings through June from 5:45-6:45 p.m. in the Water Plaza Room or Under the Pavilion

Cost: Members $5, Non-Members $10

Bringing Books to Life

Bring your child for story time each Wednesday morning. Books are nature-themed and selected based on the season. Children will also enjoy creating a small craft after the story. This event is presented by Junior League of Oklahoma City. Recommended child age is two to five years old.

Every Wednesday in April from 10-11 a.m. in the Lobby of the Crystal Bridge

Volunteer Information Session

Curious about volunteering at the Myriad Gardens? Myriad Gardens is seeking volunteers to help keep the Gardens growing all year long. Opportunities include leading tours or greeting in the Crystal Bridge, teaching and helping with education classes, Conservatory and Outdoor horticulture and administrative projects. Volunteer orientation will include an overview of the Myriad Gardens progression over the past 25 years, review of volunteer opportunities available and a docent-led tour. Refreshments will be provided.

Day Trip: Visit the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

Enjoy a fun-filled day trip to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens to celebrate spring and visit their new eight-acre Rory Meyers Children's Garden. Bursting with creative displays, this garden will inspire everyone to make your garden more imaginative and fun. The group will enjoy a guided tour of the Arboretum, and there will be time to leisurely stroll through all garden areas and shop at the gift shop.

The group will depart at 7 a.m. and return around 8 p.m. Lunch and snacks are included.

Three-Season Perennial Border Design

Bored with your border? Learn tips and tricks for designing a planting bed to look fabulous from spring until the frosts of fall. In this class, you will study examples of planting beds and discuss how they change through the seasons. Then you will design beds for your own homes based off the principles and ideas we discuss. Finally, we'll discuss how to prep the soil, plant the bed and maintain it for longevity. Participants of all experience levels will enjoy this friendly, collaborative environment.

Brown Bag Lunch Speaker Series: The Survivor Tree

See the powerful devastation and rebirth of The Survivor Tree after the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. This 100-year-old American Elm has shown the world Oklahoma City's strength through its continued growth over the past 19 years. Learn about caring for this special tree from Mark Bays, Urban Forestry coordinator with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

Fine Art Series: Deborah Kaspari "Drawing from the Tropics"

Debby Kaspari's work is infused with the color and light of the tropics. Her paintings and mixed media works are built from sketchbook pages and journals filled during the artist's travels to the rainforests of Panama and Peru. Kaspari draws animals and birds from life. Her plein air drawings are known for their confident draftsmanship. In her first solo show since Drawing the Motmot (2010, Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History) Kaspari uses oils to paint a sun-drenched view of rainforest nature.

April 17-May 29

Public opening reception from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 17 in the Crystal Bridge Lobby

Cost: Exhibit is FREE during regular Crystal Bridge hours.

Houseplant Propagation

Become a proponent of propagation! Come learn how to propagate plants like the experts so you can grow more and spend less. Casey Sharber, director of horticulture, will teach participants about a variety of propagation methods including the use of leaves, stems and roots, and other methods like air layering. Participants will try their hands at a variety of propagation methods and will learn tips to become a right proper propagation pro! Folks will leave with a variety of cuttings. Containers provided.

Easter Egg Hunt

April 19 at the Children's Garden

A children's garden of delight is awaiting kids who will enjoy activities, egg hunts with prizes, pre-hunt activities and visits from our very own Gardens Easter Bunny! Tinker Federal Credit Union's Save-A-Tron will be on hand and two lucky children will win $200 SaveAbles Kids Club accounts to the kid who finds the special TFCU prize egg in each flight. The Park House restaurant will serve Easter lunch specials following the events in the Gardens.

Join us at the Park House Restaurant for a lovely Easter Sunday Brunch. Guests will enjoy an endless buffet created by Chef Jeffrey including a variety of seasonal specialties, as well as traditional brunch items such as cage-free eggs, house-made sausage, fresh fruits and delicious salads and sides.

Festival of the Arts

April 22-27

The Arts Council of Oklahoma City's rite of spring returns to the Gardens with visual, performing and culinary arts.

Full Circle Dog Obedience Course

You will learn to teach your dog with hand signals how to focus attention, sit and down, stay, come when called, walking on a loose leash and other fundamental training methods to have a quick, responsive dog at your commands. All methods used in training are humane and positive.

All dogs must have up to date vaccinations and shot records available. Owners please bring your own 2' – 4' lead (nothing longer and no flexi-leads or retractable leashes), your own dog treats, wear pants with pockets or have a pouch to hold your treats and wear closed-toe, comfortable shoes.

Open to non-aggressive dogs age 16 weeks old and up.
