OSU Beats Missouri State In Extras

STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

Gage Green was the hero Tuesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium as the junior lifted Oklahoma State to a 3-2 win over Missouri State in 11 innings.

Green's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth sent the game into extra innings, and in the bottom of the 11th he delivered a walk-off double into the left-center field gap to help 24th-ranked OSU notch its 10th come-from-behind win of the season and improve to 17-8.

"I was just looking for something over the plate that I could square – was just trying to keep a simple approach, wasn't trying to yank anything," Green said. "He threw me an outside fastball, and I just drove it the other way. Luckily there was wet grass out there, and (the left fielder) wasn't able to pick it up. It was an exciting win."

OSU's first extra-inning game of the season didn't produce much offense from either ball club.

Missouri State (9-13) got an early unearned run in the top of the first when leadoff hitter Trey Hair, who struck out but reached safely on a wild pitch, came around to score on an RBI single by Matt Fultz.

In his seventh-career start against the Cowboys, MSU right-hander Clay Murphy kept the home team off the scoreboard until the fifth as OSU knotted the score at 1-1 when Craig McConaughy scored on a wild pitch.

But the Bears quickly answered, going back on top in the sixth when an infield single by Dylan Becker with the bases loaded gave MSU a 2-1 advantage.

That score remained until the ninth. The Bears called on closer Adam Anawalt to try and record his fifth save, but Aaron Cornell promptly greeted the righty with a single. After advancing to third on a pair of groundouts, Cornell came home with the tying run when Green ripped a single to center field.

In the 11th, McConaughy got things started with a one-out single, and Green then stepped to the plate and delivered an opposite field shot. McConaughy was running the whole way and scored easily when MSU left fielder Aaron Meyer struggled to pick the ball up.

Green's clutch hitting helped OSU closer Brendan McCurry pick up his team-leading fourth win of the season. The senior was dominant in three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and racking up a career-high six strikeouts to move to 4-0 on the year.

McConaughy finished 4-for-5 at the plate, with the four hits setting a career high.

OSU returns to Big 12 Conference action Friday night when the Cowboys open a three-game set against TCU at Reynolds Stadium.
