Senior Pepe Gomez delivered the second complete game shutout by an Oral Roberts pitcher in the past three games as the Golden Eagles blanked No. 28 Oklahoma on Tuesday evening 3-0 at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Gomez (2-2) allowed just five hits and struck out five to help move ORU's overall mark to 11-12, while the Sooners dropped to 18-7 on the year. It was Gomez's first complete game and longest outing as a Golden Eagle.

It was the first time the Golden Eagles have beaten the Sooners since June 4, 2011, when ORU won 7-0 at the Fort Worth Regional. The victory also snapped a five-game losing skid against Oklahoma.

Oklahoma had a chance to break the game open in the first inning as they loaded the bases against ORU starter Pepe Gomez with an error and two walks, but the right-hander worked his way out of the jam.

The Golden Eagles struck for a run in the second and never looked back. Right fielder Tyler Boss was hit by a pitch with one out and came around to score on a two-out single by shortstop Dean Wilson. They grabbed two more runs in the sixth with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice-fly.

Gomez (2-2) pitched nine-shutout innings in the complete game victory and allowed just five hits and three walks, while striking out five. For the Sooners, redshirt-junior Robert Tasin went 3.2 innings as he dropped to 2-1 on the season. He allowed just one run on four hits to go with two strikeouts.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Golden Eagles as they host Wichita State at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

The Sooners return to action Friday at Kansas for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
