OU Swept By ULL
No. 19/13 Oklahoma (18-8) was swept in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at No. 23/24 Louisiana-Lafayette.
Game One: ULL 7, OU 0
- Oklahoma's season-high five-game winning streak ended in a one-hit, shutout loss.
- The lone hit for Oklahoma came in the top of the seventh as junior Shelby Pendley led off with a single to centerfield. It marked the second time this season that she broke up a no-hitter in the seventh inning, also doing so with two outs in the seventh inning at Arizona State on Feb. 14.
- Pendley was 1-2 at the plate with a walk. In addition, she made her collegiate pitching debut in the fifth inning. In 2.0 innings of work, she struck out one and walked three.
Game Two: ULL 3, OU 1
- Oklahoma suffered it second two-game losing streak of the season when the Ragin' Cajuns took game two of the doubleheader.
- The Sooners scored their run in the top of the sixth as senior Destinee Martinez led off with a single and junior Shelby Pendley hit a double to right center. Sophomore Whitney Ellis then brought in the OU run on a fielder's choice.
- The double by Pendley extended her hitting streak to 10 games, matching a career-high set from March 31-April 14, 2012, while she was a freshman at Arizona. She finished 1-3 in the game.
- Sophomore Kelsey Stevens was saddled with the loss. She pitched 6.0 innings with three runs allowed, three walks and two strikes as her record fell to 12-5.
OSU Falls To South Alabama
The Oklahoma State softball team fell to No. 14/16 South Alabama, 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium.
South Alabama (22-3) got on the board in the top of the second inning when Amanda Herron ripped a ball just out of reach of Gessenia DeLaCruz's glove, scoring Chloe Rathburn and Kaitlyn Griffith from third and second to put the Jaguars up 2-0. USA added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning when Alex Breeden hit a three-run home run to leftfield, extending the South Alabama lead to 5-0.
The Cowgirls (17-10) got a run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Shianne Hughes scored on a base hit by Ari Morrison. OSU would fall by the final of 5-1.
At the plate, the Cowgirls put up eight hits. Morrison went 2-4 with an RBI and Dre McKee was 2-for-3 with a double. Shelby Davis, Tarah Ettinger and Tiffany Mikkelson all had base hits, while Danielle Riddle picked up a double.
In the circle, Simone Freeman (12-5) pitched seven innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on six hits and striking out three.
*The Tulsa Golden Hurricane swept a doubleheader from Marshall on Saturday, by final scores of 14-1 and 4-2.
