The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) explained why a trooper involved in a high-speed chase in Oklahoma City did not return fire at the suspects.

The chase ended near NW Expressway and Wilshire on Thursday night, then the driver took off running.

Two people in the car with him, a man and woman, were arrested at the scene. However, OHP has not released their names while the investigation continues.

Troopers said six shots were fired from the suspects at the trooper, but not a single one hit the trooper or his vehicle. OHP said the trooper did not fire any shots at the suspect vehicle because troopers can only shoot from their patrol cars if deadly force is authorized.

Troopers told residents to stay inside their homes while they searched.

"I'm just nosy, when I hear a bunch of commotion, I just go outside," said Sabrina Tettehfio.

Nothing was stopping Tettehfio from checking things out and she witnessed the driver's escape.

"I swear for God, when he hopped that fence, it looked like he jumped over that fence, he didn't even touch that fence, he was out," she explained. "He looked like he was the Bionic man or something. He was just like ‘PEEEW.' The police hadn't even got out of their car. By the time they got out, he was already gone."

After all the chaos, residents in the area said they aren't worried at all that the driver hasn't been caught.

"I think it's kind of crazy really. There's crazy people all over the place, so you just got to be careful," said a man who lives nearby.

"He won't come back over here because he knows if he does, he will get caught," said Tettehfio.

OHP said the suspect is a white male.
