TULSA, Oklahoma -

An American Airlines jet bound for Dallas hit a bird while taking off from Tulsa International Airport and then made an emergency landing.

The bird hit one of the Boeing 757's two engines. The crew immediately turned back and landed at the airport.

American Airlines flight 1491 took off to the west on runway 26 at 10:31 a.m. on its way to DFW. Flights at TIA are using the east-west runway because the main north-south runways are under construction.

The flight crew told ground controllers they had 186 people on board.

There were no reports of any injuries and the plane showed no obvious signs of damage on News On 6's Osage SkyCam network and Osage SkyNews 6 couldn't spot any, either.

The crew took the plane back to the terminal so mechanics could check the engine and so the airline could decide what to do with the passengers.

People on the plane say everyone stayed calm and the only panic was about whether they could make their connecting flights in Dallas.

A News On 6 viewer posted photos on the NewsOn6.com share page showing a fire truck and emergency personnel in safety gear approaching the airliner once it landed.

According to the FAA, there have been 29 bird strikes involving airplanes at Tulsa International Airport since January 1, 2013.
