Authorities had to shut down the eastbound lanes of Northwest Expressway, near the Boardwalk Apartment complex, while they searched for an armed suspect who fled in the area on foot following a high-speed chase.
The chase began after a traffic stop near I-40 and I-44. According to authorities, the officer responding to that stop reported 10 shots fired before the suspects' vehicle, a '98 Lincoln, took off.
Police say the chase ran from NW 50th St. to Portland Ave., to Wilshire, then west to Lyrewood, reaching speeds of around 90 mph, before a single suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Two other suspects in the vehicle, a male and a female, were arrested at the scene and a gun was recovered.
Police do not know for sure if the suspect who fled on foot is armed and dangerous, but they advise residents in the area to keep their doors locked and remain alert.
No description or suspect information has been released, but police say the suspect on the run may be wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
Air One has been called out to help search the area at this time. K9 units have also been called in to assist.
Authorities did not say how the chase began in the first place.
