Two Earthquakes Rattle Stillwater Saturday

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 2.9 magnitude earthquake early Saturday and a 3.1 magnitude tremor during the evening hours.<br />

Bookend tremors shook Stillwater on Saturday.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the first was 2.9 magnitude earthquake near Payne County at 8:06 a.m., four miles northeast of Stillwater, 31 miles northeast of Guthrie.

The second earthquake was recorded 3 miles southeast of Stillwater about 9:11 p.m. and measured a preliminary 3.1 on the Richter scale.

According to the report, the depth of both earthquakes was just over 3 miles deep. There are no reports of major injury or damage at this time.

The USGS also reported a 2.5 earthquake seven miles southwest of Guthrie at 2:21 a.m. early Saturday morning.
