Gored: Longhorns Trample Oklahoma State

They say everything is bigger in Texas.

That was certainly the case for Oklahoma State on Tuesday and not in a good way. The void left by Marcus Smart was massive and, as a result, the margin of defeat was comparatively enormous at the Erwin Center.

The only thing that shrank in Austin was hope, as the Cowboys' season continued to spiral out of control in a lopsided 87-68 loss to the No. 19 Longhorns.

This game was over as quickly as it began, with Texas racing out to a 19-point advantage just 10 minutes into the game. The Cowboys never climbed closer than 17 the rest of the way, en route to their fifth-straight loss and their sixth defeat in seven games.

With Smart sidelined the next two games, as well, this Cowboy team that was ranked No. 8 in the country just two weeks ago is likely on its way out of the NCAA Tournament picture barring a complete turnaround.

OSU looked completely lost without its All-American point guard. Yes, Smart has had his struggles shooting the ball the past two weeks, but the other areas in which he impacts the game were glaringly absent.

The Cowboys were abysmal defensively, the offense devolved into one-and-done contested isolation possessions and Texas controlled the pacing of the contest in every conceivable way.

To add insult to injury: UT was missing its leading scorer, as well.

Jonathan Holmes, who averages 13.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, was sidelined with a knee injury and Texas didn't miss a beat.

Javan Felix put the game on his shoulders and scored 27 points, including six 3's, to lead the Horns. Felix went on a one-man 8-0 run in the first half that really blew the game open, increasing UT's lead from 14 to 22 in the span of roughly one-and-a-half minutes in the first half.

Isaiah Taylor scored 16 for Texas (19-5, 8-3 Big 12), while Cameron Ridley and Martez Walker chipped in 12 each. Ridley also ripped down a game-best 13 rebounds.

Le'Bryan Nash was one of the few bright spots for the Cowboys (16-8, 4-7 Big 12) with 23 points and six rebounds. Kamari Murphy added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Markel Brown chipped in 18 points for the Pokes but struggled to stay under control for much of the game, shooting just 4-for-14 from the floor.

The five-game losing skid is OSU's worst since 2008 -- and just OSU's second such slide in 25 years -- and the 18-point defeat was the Pokes' worst loss since March 8, 2012 when OSU lost by 18 to No. 5 Missouri in the Big 12 Tournament.

Bedlam is next on the agenda for the Cowboys at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Stillwater.
