A southwest Oklahoma City neighborhood is in shock after a young mother is found dead inside her home.

It turns out it was the woman's own children who discovered the body. Police told News 9 there were three kids inside the home, ages three, eight and 11. The children woke to find their mother unresponsive.

Instead of calling the police, they called a family friend, who arrived and called 911 for help.

Police received the call to the 5000 block of S. Broadway Pl. around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning and arrived shortly after.

Many of the neighbors awoke to find police cars and crime scene tape covering the neighborhood.

"Yeah that's scary, very scary," Neighbor, Norma Delacruz, said.

She moved in about a year ago and can see the woman's house from her front porch, but she said she doesn't really know her.

"I mean I would see her, I wouldn't see any guys there for a while," said Delcruz. " And then all of the sudden we started seeing guys coming."

Delacruz said she doesn't know if those men were friends or family members but claimed many people arrived and left once police showed up.

"They've lived there approximately four or five months I think, not very long. They moved in the summer," Gene Parton, who lives two doors down and was stunned to find police officers surrounding his street, said.

He said he'd seen the mother and her children but never really talked to them. But Lee Russell said his kids knew the family and even spent the night at their house.

"My boys spent the night there last month," said Russell. "There's never been any trouble or any foul play in the house. They come in the morning, say they had a good time and can they go back."

Lee said the kids mother did not speak any English, so that made communicating with her hard. He and others here just can't believe her children and police found her dead inside.

"Its pretty much a big surprise, big surprise to see something like that happen," Russell said.

"Hopefully they'll find out what happened," said Parton. "And if there was foul play, I hope they catch ‘em."

Oklahoma City police are now in the process of trying to locate the woman's family, who they do not believe lived in the state.

The three children have been placed in protective custody.
