MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -

A string of break-ins in Midwest City has some neighbors on edge. But thanks to a personal security system, Midwest City police said they have a better idea of what the thief in one of those crimes looks like.

Police said six burglaries have happened in the area of NE 10th St. and just east of Midwest Blvd. Investigators are not sure all the crimes are connected. They hope someone recognizes the burglar in a picture taken from a victim's home security camera.

"Pretty scary, I mean, it could have easily been us," said neighbor Anthony Scott.

Scott lives on the block where the burglaries are happening.

"It's alarming, so we don't want to become a victim," Scott added.

Someone broke into another home just a few houses down from Scott on Tuesday, January 28. The homeowner who was burglarized did not want to talk on camera, but said she was only gone for 30 minutes when the thieves broke inside.

She said it was the fourth time in five years criminals have targeted her house. This most recent time, the thief kicked in her front door and took an X-Box gaming system. She said she thinks someone was watching her because it was the only time she left her house that day.

"I think it is very scary, very scary, I mean you have to pay attention to your surroundings," said Scott about his neighbor's burglary.

Midwest City Police said all the crimes have been in the afternoon and the surveillance picture may not show the burglar's full face, but it's certainly enough to get people talking.

"They're a profile picture and if you know the guy, you would probably be able to say, ‘Yeah, that's so and so,'" said Captain Greg Wipfli with Midwest City Police.

Residents said they are watching out for each other more than ever.

"Just keeping an eye out on the neighborhood just for suspicious activity," said Scott.

Anyone with information on these burglaries is asked to call Midwest City Police at (405) 739-1388.
