Skyrocketing demand for propane has people struggling financially.

"I don't make a lot of money, so I don't know how we are going to pay for it," said Jayme Williams, who paid $3.85 a gallon on Monday.

She purchased 150 gallons of propane on Monday, with hopes that it will heat her home for at least 30 days.

On December 31, Williams tells News 9 she paid $2.05 a gallon.

"It's going to be difficult. We'll have to cut back elsewhere," said Williams, an Okarche resident.

News 9 did some price checking Monday and was quoted as high as $4.35 a gallon. Propane companies tell News 9 a distribution problem has led to a propane shortage.

Twenty four states have declared a "State of Emergency" due to the shortage. That includes Oklahoma.

The declaration loosens transportation rules so out-of-state truckers can drive longer hours to make deliveries.
