A police chase ends with a deadly shootout in a neighborhood near Interstate 40 and Sunnylane Rd. early Saturday morning. Two Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers and the suspect were shot.

According to an OHP spokesman, the chase started on I-35 and ended when the suspect got off I-40 at the Sunnylane Rd. exit. Investigators spent hours at the scene collecting evidence, but did not say why the chase started.

"The first I heard was like a pistol or machine gun and then next thing I know I'm hearing two or three guns go off to quiet the first one," said neighbor Mikey Foster. "It ended pretty quick if you ask me."

The suspect was shot and killed outside a vacant house. The two troopers chasing him were also hit when the suspect opened fire.

"Both troopers were shot, one of them in the face, the other one in the leg," said Lt. Brian Orr with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Police swarmed the area. The commotion sent neighbors in the area ducking for cover.

"I pretty much just got ready for anything to come into this house," said Foster. "I mean I have a pregnant fiancé here and I wouldn't want a bullet to hit her."

Orr said both troopers were taken to area hospitals to be treated. They were both in stable condition. The names of the suspect and the troopers were not released.
