Edmond YMCA Opens Early February

Posted: Updated:
EDMOND, Oklahoma -

Many in Edmond have been waiting years, even decades for this: the brand new YMCA opens February 3rd.

The Y is actually a three way collaborative effort between Edmond Schools, the City of Edmond and the YMCA.

From the suspended walking track that overlooks the basketball and volleyball courts. To the state of the art cardio and weight machines. Even the group exercise studios and youth fitness space seem to actually make you want to work out.

But what is sure to make the biggest splash: the massive indoor pool area with a leisure pool complete with a waterslide that goes outside then in again and a swim meet/practice facility that will host the Edmond Swim teams.

The Edmond school district paid for a third of the $26 million dollar facility though a bond issue. The city and YMCA also each paid a third of the cost

"You think about our community and all the amenities and everything we have here, I think this facility compliments that well and people can feel proud," said Mike Roark, the Executive Director of the Edmond YMCA.

The Edmond schools were supposed to start practicing in the facility on January 6th. However, since the pool wasn't ready in time, the contractor has had to pay rent on another practice facility for the teams.
