NFL.com is reporting that Commissioner Roger Goodell is considering a rule change that would eliminate extra points from the game.
According to the story, Goodell is looking at a change that would automatically give seven points for every touchdown instead of six, but would still allow teams to try for an eighth point with a traditional offensive play. The wrinkle is that if the team fails to convert on the try, they would lose a point and the touchdown then becomes worth just six points.
"The extra point is almost automatic," Goodell told NFL.com. "I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd. So it's a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play."
