High Fire Risk Remains As Arctic Blast Moves In To OK

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

Thursday night winds will weaken across the state. After midnight we'll see northwest winds at 10 to 15 mph gusting up to 20 mph at times. This will be a huge improvement from the gusts over 50 mph Thursday afternoon.

Lows Thursday night will drop into 20s and lower 30s with partly cloudy skies.

Friday, cooler temperatures are expected as another arctic blast impacts states to our north and east. Highs will climb into the upper 40s and lower 50s. Winds on Friday will hold steady out of the northwest once again, with occasional gusts to 20 mph.

Despite the calmer winds, moisture will really be lacking across the state, so the fire risk will stay in the high category both Friday and Saturday.

Sunday winds will pick back up out of the southwest leading to another extreme fire risk day. With no major improvements in the next 9 days in the form of rainfall, the high fire risk will continue to be the main concern.
