OCU Wrestlers Fall To Ouachita Baptist

The Stars dropped a close one to Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) 26-22 on Wednesday.

Oklahoma City University narrowly fell to Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) 26-22 Wednesday at Bill Vining Arena.

OCU rallied and took an 18-14 lead after falling behind early, but the 13th-ranked team in NCAA Division II mounted a comeback and edged the Stars by four points. The loss moves OCU to 5-7 in duals on the season.

Jamie Shawver put OCU on the scoreboard after losses in the first two matches. The sophomore pinned Jacob Andrews at 165 pounds to make the score 9-6 in favor of the Tigers.

Freshman Derek Sivertsen immediately followed with a pin of Joey Hutchens at 174 and gave OCU a 12-9 lead.

Junior Cody Sivertsen earned a 4-2 decision at 197 and senior Teagan Franco picked up a 5-2 decision at 285 to give OCU its largest lead of the dual at 18-14.

Ouachita Baptist got pins from Garrett Evans and Nathan Rodriguez at 125 and 133 and regained the lead at 26-18 with one match remaining.

At 141, freshman James Landoll notched a 10-2 major decision over Seth Hutchinson, but it wasn't enough and Ouachita Baptist took the 26-22 victory.

The Stars will return to action in the Missouri Valley Invitational on Saturday.
