When I get on a flight with open seating I immediately start looking for two types of people to avoid: little bitty people with pacifiers stuck in their mouths, and big people with Bluetooth headsets stuck in their ears.
I'm not sure which is more annoying on a plane.
Bluetooth will talk all the way until the flight attendant warns him a 2nd time right before takeoff that it's time to hang-up and usually loud enough for half the plane to hear it. We don't all need to know about your mother's goiter, and we're not impressed with your blustering about how great your business is.
I say all this because today the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) started taking public comments as they prepare to make a decision on allowing airline passengers to talk on their cell phones in flight.
They've admitted it's no danger to operation of the plane, but it's a very real danger to the serenity of others within ear shot. Are we really ready for headlines about "air rage"?
Still, we don't need the government telling us when we can and can't talk on our cell phones. The free market will take care of that, already is it sounds like.
Delta and Southwest say they've heard enough from their passengers already to say they won't be allowing cell phone calls. American is still listening. Can't we all just agree to text the friendly skies?
