R.J. Harris has dropped out as a Democratic candidate for Oklahoma governor.

Harris made the announcement on his web site Wednesday and says he's endorsing Democratic state Representative Joe Dorman in the race.

"Many thanks to my supporters. Please take notice of Joe Dorman's campaign. You will find a candidate who, like me, is socially tolerant and fiscally conservative. I am very impressed with Joe and our similarities on several key issues makes this an easy endorsement. We've got a candidate here in Joe that, even if we don't see eye-to-eye on every issue, if I wasn't convinced that he wasn't serious about taking some of these issues head-on then I wouldn't be doing this," R.J. Harris said.

Harris ran for the Libertarian Party's 2012 U.S. presidential nomination.

Republican Governor Mary Fallin is running for her second term in office. She faces a GOP primary challenge from former state Senator Randy Brogdon, who filed paperwork last month to run for governor.

Fallin became Oklahoma's first female governor when she captured more than 60 percent of the vote in the 2010 election against then-Lt. Governor Jari Askins.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
