Edmond Police are trying to identify a man who they said may be preying on children.

The man approached two little girls at the Old Navy store on Bryant and 2nd Street with a tactic that might work in the future.

"This guy just came up to me and my little sister and said, 'Can you please help me find my dog?' and I looked at Macy and said, 'No, I'm watching my little sister right now,'" said 11-year-old Bailey.

The girls were waiting inside the store Monday at 5 p.m., while their mom was in the fitting rooms with their brother.

"She grabbed my hand and then we went to my mom," 5-year-old Macy explained.

It was a moment their mother had warned them might happen one day.

"Throw the biggest temper tantrum that you can throw, if someone tries to grab you, you kick them, and squirm and yell and scream," explained Jennifer, the girls' mother.

The man was only in the store for four minutes and Bailey was able to point him out on surveillance footage.

"What would have happened if I did say yes and what if I went with him? Or if I wasn't with Macy and Macy went with him," Bailey wondered.

Jennifer was relieved Bailey did the right thing and hopes other parents use this story as a teaching moment.

"Extremely proud, it's just one of those things that you're glad you teach your kids about strangers and knowing what to do and she did," said Jennifer.

The surveillance image shows the man wearing a dark baseball cap, a hooded jacket and blue jeans. He appears to be white, in his forties, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10, around 170 pounds and with scruffy facial hair.

If you recognize him, call Edmond Police at (405) 359-4491.
