Police have released the identity of a burglary suspect who was shot and killed by an off-duty Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Friday.

Investigators say Anthony Darnell King, 22, of Tulsa was attempting to break into the home of off-duty OHP Trooper John Marion on December 27, when the trooper opened fire.

According to police, Marion then called police.

When police arrived at the home in the 200 block of N.E. 2nd Street, they found King unresponsive and suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he died during emergency surgery.

King was described as being armed with a handgun at the time of the incident. Detectives also linked King to an attempted kidnapping and robbery that occurred earlier that same day. During that incident, Oklahoma City Police say King assaulted a woman and her child in the 400 block of North Central as they were getting into their car.

King escaped from the Carver Transitional Center in Oklahoma City, where he was being held following his convictions in Tulsa County in 2012 for assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle.

OHP commanders responded to the scene to placed Marion on routine administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Jerry Massey, Department of Corrections spokesperson, confirmed King escaped from the Carver Center, a halfway house in Oklahoma City,

Brian Costello, Chief Operating Officer for the Carver Center, said King ran away from the non- secure facility on December 26. King allegedly told a roommate he "was out of there."

King is a two time convicted felon who still had time to serve for assault with a dangerous weapon and stealing a vehicle, when DOC transferred him to the Carver Center .

Costello said he would like to see the DOC conduct better screening before sending its inmate to the facility. He also said they will be reevaluating the housing situation and repositioning cameras on the facility grounds.
