Tulsa firefighters rescued four people from the third floor of an apartment complex late Monday.

The fire department was called to the Highland Park apartments in the 5500 block of East 47th Street about a fire in a second story apartment just after 10:30 p.m.

The Tulsa Fire Department said when they arrived, firefighters found four people on the third floor who were unable to get downstairs due to the fire on the second floor.  Firefighters used ladders to climb up and rescue three.  A fourth person was able to get down a nearby stairwell with help from firefighters.

EMSA took the four to the hospital to be checked out for smoke inhalation.  There is no word on their conditions.

Fire officials said the fire heavily damaged one apartment and caused smoke and water damage to two nearby apartments.

Officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
