Claremore Mayor and former chief of police Mickey Perry, 66, was laid to rest on Thursday.

He was remembered as a man who loved his family and was devoted to serving his community, in big ways and small.

He served on boards and volunteered with countless agencies as well as spent time helping and encouraging many people one on one.

"Sometimes on his way back to the office from lunch, I'd sit in the car while he knocked on the door of a widow lady, just someone he'd been asked to check on," CPD Chief Stan Brown said.

Honor guards from several different law enforcement agencies conducted a 21-gun salute as well as a flyover in a police helicopter as a final tribute.

Perry was a longtime law enforcement officer before being elected mayor of the northeast Oklahoma City in April 2011.

He worked for the Claremore Police Department from 1969 until 1979 when he joined the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. He worked for the OBN from 1979 tunt6il 1990 when he returned to Claremore as the chief of police. He retired in January 2011.

Perry is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Jennifer Lewis and husband Randy, and four grandchildren.
