Former Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger, convicted in August of killing a Tulsa businessman and 10 others, is now in a federal prison in Oklahoma.

The federal Bureau of Prisons website says the 84-year-old Bulger is being held at the federal transfer facility in Oklahoma City.

Last week, the Boston Globe reported Bulger was ordered to pay just over $6 million to the family of Roger Wheeler. The newspaper said the restitution award to Wheeler's family is the highest amount the judge approved.

Wheeler was found shot to death at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa in 1981. His daughter, Pamela Wheeler, testified during Bulger's trial. In August, a federal jury in Boston convicted Bulger and a judge sentenced him to a pair of life terms in November.

It was not immediately clear when Bulger was moved or why he was moved from a New York prison to Oklahoma.

Prosecutors in Tulsa have not said whether they will move forward with a murder case against Bulger in Wheeler's death.
