OKLAHOMA CITY -

Firefighters found one person dead Monday after battling an intense two-alarm fire in northwest Oklahoma City near Hefner and May.

A person delivering medical furniture to the home in the 11400 block of N. Miller called 911 around 1 p.m. after seeing the fire. When firefighters arrived, thick smoke and flames were pouring from the house.

Chief Marc Woodard said crews knew there may have been one or two people in the home when the fire started; but firefighters were unable to go into the house when they arrived because the smoke and flames were too heavy.

Firefighters managed to knock down the fire after about 30 minutes. That's when they went into the house and discovered one fatality. Firefighters left the house and crime-scene tape was put around the scene.

Investigators are going over the burned-out house, trying to determine how the fire started.

Oklahoma City Fire Chief Chad Everett said the fire is suspicious, and it appears to have been intentionally set.

Neighbors told News 9 Rodney and Debra Garber lived in that house. However, at this time, authorities are not releasing any information about the victim, as the Medical Examiner work to determine the identity.
