A Tulsa K-9 officer and partner captured an armed man police say had just robbed a Walgreens. The robbery took place at the pharmacy's 15th and Lewis location at about 2 a.m.

Police say the K-9 team was parked in the Office Depot parking lot across the street while the human half of the pair did paperwork. The officer saw a man cover his face before going inside the Walgreens.

Just after that, police dispatchers were informed of a robbery.

"We like to think we're in the right place at the right time as frequently as we can, but this was the idea set of circumstances," said Tulsa Police Captain Mike Eckert.

The K-9 team followed Shain Montez Garner as he ran from the store and brought him down a short distance away. The dog shredded Garner's pants, and the 27-year-old man hit his head on the pavement as he was captured.

"That chase took about five seconds," Eckert said.

Police recovered 9-milimeter gun from Garner's hoodie and found a plastic Walgreens sack with money.

EMSA checked his injuries checked out before the suspect was taken to jail.

"No medical treatment was needed," Captain Eckert said.

Shain Montez is being held on a $62,000, booked on complaints of armed robbery, possession of stolen property and obstructing justice.
