It was below freezing and snowing outside the Lloyd Noble Center on Thursday afternoon, but that didn't stop the Sooners from catching fire.

10 Sooners scored as Oklahoma dominated Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 78-56, in Norman to improve to 7-1 on the young season.

Leading 24-8 with just under eight minutes remaining in the first, OU put together a 15-6 run to close the half and took a 42-24 lead into the locker room.

The Sooners' scoring slowed a bit in the second half, but things never really got close.  OU's lead ballooned to as much as 24 with 11:41 to play, when two D.J. Bennett free throws put the Sooners ahead 56-32.

Then, with 5:11 remaining, Ryan Spangler's layup followed Isaiah Cousins' 3-ball and OU grabbed a whopping 70-43 advantage.  OU took its foot off the gas from there and cruised to the easy win.

OU coach Lon Kruger says he was proud of his team's ability to maintain focus despite the lopsided score.

"A lot of good things," Kruger said.  "In a game like this where the (scoring) margin is kinda there early, thought our guys did a pretty good job of maintaining their focus and continue to make good plays for each other."

Buddy Hield led Oklahoma with 18 points while Cousins added 12.  Bennett and Frank Booker each added nine points while Cameron Clark and Jordan Woodard each chipped in eight.

The game was originally supposed to tip at 7 p.m. Thursday night, but weather moved the tip to 2 p.m.  Kruger says that sudden changes like that can actually be a teaching point.

"Any time you're thrown out of the routine, it takes a little bit (of adjusting), but it's good for you.  It's good to test yourself when you don't have everything in order."

OU is back in action Sunday against George Mason.  Tip from the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. is scheduled for 12 p.m. central.
