A 15-year-old girl from Shawnee claimed two men grabbed her and threw her into a van late last month. Now, police there confirm that teenager lied about her alleged abduction.
News 9 questioned Shawnee police from the very beginning about whether they thought the girl's story was true or not. We even questioned the girl ourselves. And it turns out she made the whole thing up.
"My life literally flashed before my eyes and I thought I was going to die that day," said the 15-year-old girl during a Nov. 19 interview with News 9 Crime Tracker Reporter Adrianna Iwasinski.

The girl even met with the OSBI, who created composite sketches of her alleged kidnappers. But now police in Shawnee say she confessed to them she lied about being kidnapped on Nov. 7, while walking on her way to school.
Police say it was during an interview with the girl's boyfriend late Tuesday night that the truth came to light. The girl's father tells News 9 his daughter made up the story about that kidnapping because she was running late to school, and she did not want to receive a fine or get in trouble.
News 9 checked and Shawnee High School only hands out detentions for chronic tardiness, not fines.
This afternoon the family released the following statement: "We appreciate all of the efforts by the Shawnee Police Criminal Investigation Division and support their findings. We are troubled by this turn of events."
In fact in a phone interview, the girl's father tells us he is devastated by what has happened. Police say they have closed the case, and do not plan on filing any criminal charges, even though the girl did file a false police report.
