OKLAHOMA CITY -

Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in southeast Oklahoma City.

According to police, officers were randomly searching for stolen cars in the area of S.E. 44th and I-35 when they spotted a man and woman inside a stolen vehicle. Police say the two ditched the vehicle and ran.

According to Captain Dexter Nelson with the Oklahoma City Police Department, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers shot the male suspect after he crossed into a well-lit portion of I-35 SB carrying a gun. Nelson said the suspect pointed the gun at officers and oncoming northbound and southbound traffic. OCPD officers shot and killed the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

SB I-35 has been closed between S.E. 44th and S.E. 59th streets in OKC during the ongoing investigation. OCPD Homicide detectives and OHP are on scene.

The names of the involved officers and suspects are not being released until the suspect is identified and his next of kin is notified.
