A cluster of large igloo-like structures will create a new shopping experience in Oklahoma City come Black Friday.
The Holiday Pop-Up Shops, presented by St. Anthony Hospital, will be a temporary shopping village in Midtown. The village will be located in front of St. Anthony Hospital, 1000 N. Walker Avenue and featured a rotating collection of 30 local shops from around Oklahoma.
"This event is really about shopping, about supporting local shops and their creativity," said Allison Bailey, a local retail consultant and organizer of The Holiday Pop-Up Shops. "From a shopper's perspective, the hard part about local shops is that they are harder to discover."
The igloo-shaped, geodesic domes used for the shop structures are each 300-square-feet with a 12 foot ceilings at the center. The units have heat and air conditioning and are engineered to resist 80 mile per hour winds.
The shops will be open Thursday through Sunday for four weeks, each week with a new lineup of shops.
"We've invited the best local shops to participate, and we've organized it to be a brand new experience each week," said Bailey.
Also on site, there will be a snowball "fortress" play area for kids, a gift wrapping station and a concierge station to offer assistance.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Free shuttles will be available on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The buses will loop between Midtown and Continental Resources downtown headquarters at 20 N. Broadway.
