Oklahoma State's Dave Smith has been named the 2013 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Coach of the Year.

In his eighth season at the helm of the Oklahoma State's men's cross country program, Smith guided the Cowboys to the 2013 Midwest Region title over Tulsa, 45-57. Five OSU runners finished in a row between seventh and 11th place, led by Tom Farrell in seventh, and the Cowboys were the only squad with seven runners in the top 40.

The regional win came on the heels of a sixth-consecutive Big 12 title, and the Cowboys also notched an early-season win over current No. 1 Northern Arizona at the Cowboy Jamboree.

This is the sixth time in the last eight seasons Smith has won the award. He was also named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the sixth-consecutive year earlier this month.

Smith's Cowboys will attempt to win their fourth NCAA title in five years at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Ind.
